A Saugerties High School graduate is preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be happening the second week of July. It is an exciting time not only for this major league prospect, but also for his mom, who is a teacher in the New Paltz School District as well.
Hudson Valley Ball Player Prepares For MLB Draft
While it isn’t the first time, it certainly isn’t every day that a Hudson Valley graduate prepares for the MLB draft.

Ethan Conrad, who attended Saugerties High School, graduating in 2022, also attended Marist before transferring to Wake Forest University in order to further his baseball career. Fast forward just three years later and that baseball career is headed towards the majors.
In addition to playing for Saugerties High School and Marist University, Conrad also played summer ball for the Saugerties Stallions which is part of the ‘Perfect Game Collegiate League.’

21-year old Conrad is preparing for the 2025 MLB Draft, with the New Paltz Athletic Association (where his mom teaches in the Middle School and used to coach both softball and volleyball) citing that he’s heading into the draft later this month as a ‘First Round Top 20 Pick!’
Though many locals would love to see a Hudson Valley homegrown athlete on a New York team, when the New Paltz Athletic Association asked Ethan’s mom Kristen Conrad about the potential for her son to play in New York, she shared:
it’s highly likely Ethan will be already chosen by then. ESPN is predicting Ethan will be taken by an early pick going to the Kansas City Royals!
The Yankees have the 37th pick for 2025.
The Royals did a full prospect report on Conrad back in early June, and noted that despite a shoulder injury that ended up being season ending in April, that he ‘looked like a slam-dunk first-rounder before the injury and is still in that range on most prospect rankings.’

The 2025 MLB Draft is scheduled for July 13th and 14th in Atlanta as part of All-Star Week.
