COVENTRY – Talk about a long baseball game. The Coventry and Narragansett 10-year-old all stars were in the fourth inning of their District 3 losers bracket quarterfinals last Thursday when a torrential downpour led to a nearly 72-hour-long delay.

By the time play resumed on Sunday night at Paine Field under far more favorable conditions, it was a quick race to the finish line, the two teams deadlocked 6-6 in the middle of the fourth inning.

After Narragansett went out in front 7-6 in the top of the fifth on a Thomas Clark RBI groundout which plated Chase Maguire, Coventry answered in the bottom of the frame on an Ethan Poirier sacrifice fly before Anias Mylniec scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to complete an 8-7 victory.
