Brady Farkas from Fastball On Si writes that with a 52-38 record, the Blue Jays now hold a three-game lead over both the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees in the AL East.
Bo Bichette contributed a solo home run and scored twice, going 1-for-3 at the plate, while Kevin Gausman fanned nine batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision effort.
Both players etched their names deeper into the record books with their performances, climbing unique all-time lists according to StatsCenter.
Bichette is enjoying a bounce-back season, batting .270 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI’s. a significant improvement from last year’s .225 average and just four homers.
“A free agent at the end of the season, the 27-year-old is setting himself up for a nice pay day in the offseason. Given that the Blue Jays have already given Vladimir Guerreor Jr. a $500 million contract, it’s unclear if they can afford to pay Bichette as well.” -Farkas
Gausman holds a 6-6 record with a 4.13 ERA this season, racking up 102 strikeouts over 104.2 innings of work.
The Blue Jays return to action Monday night as they head to Chicago to take on the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET.
