Logan-Magnolia 6, Exira-EHK 0: The Spartans struggles at the plate this season were shown as they collected just one hit – a double by Josiah King – in an Iowa Class 1A district quarterfinal loss Monday night to the Panthers at Logan.
The Spartan defense and pitching kept them in the game until the sixth inning, when the Panthers scored four runs to add to what was a 2-0 lead. Both the earlier runs were scored in the first inning.
Nine Spartan baserunners – three hit batters, three by walk and two by error – were allowed by Panther starter Jason Kastner and reliever Wes Vana, and it was Vana off whom King got the hit.
Alex Hansen went 5-2/3 innings, striking out eight while giving up 10 hits for Exira-EHK, which finished the year 2-16.
ACGC 3, AHSTW 2: Will Skram’s walk-off RBI secured the winning run for the Chargers in a tight Iowa Class 1A district opener Monday night at Woodbine.
Skram was 1-for-3 on the night, and finished with two RBIs in the contest. It was the seventh-inning bases-loaded flyball to right that sent Jackson Pfrang home for the win.
The Vikings scored the first two runs, coming in the first and third innings, before the Chargers tied the score in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.
Noah Kading and Colton Clark combined for the ACGC victory, giving up five hits with Kading striking out three and walking five and Clark in for the win. Aiden Akers went the full game for AHSTW, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out three.
ACGC (10-13) was set to play Woodbine in Tuesday’s district quarterfinal at Woodbine.
