Elyria South Baseball Club will hold a baseball camp with the Cleveland Guardians for players in surrounding communities.

Players ages 6 through 14 will learn from the Guardians players on the fundamentals of baseball July 9 and 10.

“They’ll be working on a lot of the intricate parts of what they offer on a professional level and bringing it back down to our children’s understanding,” Elyria Youth Sports Club President Aric Bowens said. “We’re very excited.”

The youngsters will receive Guardians merchandise and two game tickets, Bowens said.

The two-day camp will take place at Ely Stadium in Elyria, also in conjunction with the city of Elyria’s Parks and Recreation Department and Elyria High School’s Athletic Department.

The collaboration came to fruition through the Positive Coaching Alliance, which provides workshops and opportunities for coaches throughout communities.

“We’re excited to build this relationship with the Guardians, and it’s a positive win for our organization and the community as well,” Bowens said.

JC Insurance in Elyria paid for three players of the Elyria South Baseball Club to participate, and the first 25 members to sign up received $100 off the participation fee.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided, courtesy of Aramark Sports and Entertainment.

Bowens said campers will walk away with more than just baseball knowledge.

“They will learn confidence, and hopefully, this will inspire them to continue to stay in baseball or softball,” Bowens said. “I think the whole experience itself amplifies what we love to see in the community.”
