Another day, another roster move for the Los Angeles Dodgers to freshen up the bullpen.

One day after the team recalled right-handed pitcher Julian Fernandez to make his team debut, the Dodgers are now sending him back down and calling up right-handed reliever Alexis Diaz to do the same.

Additionally, the Dodgers have right-handed pitcher Landon Knack on the taxi squad. The team may call him up ahead of Wednesday’s game if they need some length behind Tyler Glasnow, who will be pitching for the first time at the big league level since late April.

Diaz, 28, was acquired by the Dodgers in late May after struggling with the Cincinnati Reds and being demoted to the minor leagues.

The former All-Star reliever has been a shell of his former self over the past few seasons, and the Dodgers hoped to revive his career.

In six appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Diaz hasn’t exactly turned things around, sporting a 9.64 ERA over 4.2 innings. Nevertheless, the Dodgers wanted to give him a shot at the MLB level, and will see if he has fixed some of the issues that plagued his final seasons with the Reds.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that the reports on Diaz in Triple-A was that the stuff was fine, but was command was inconsistent. He had seen walks to just three strikeouts.

As for Fernandez, he allowed two earned runs in two innings on Monday night. Now, he’s heading back to the minor leagues.
