Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Tuesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 11-4 vs Las Vegas) (47-41 on the season)

Forrest Wall – 2-for-5, Three-Run Double

Mason McCoy – 1-for-5, Grand Slam

Matt Waldron – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K (93 pitches – 66 strikes)

El Paso struck for 10 runs in the first two innings, knocking out two Las Vegas pitchers in the process. Tim Locastro drew four walks all game, with his first driving in a run. Forrest Wall cleared the bases with a double, and Mike Brosseau hit a 10-hopper to the left side to score Wall. With two outs and the bases loaded in the next frame, Mason McCoy sent a grand slam out to center field to extend the lead to 9-0. Brosseau’s second RBI single of the night made it 10-0 after two innings. Clay Dungan would drive in the team’s final run with an RBI double in the fifth inning, capping El Paso’s scoring at 11 runs. The team went 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position, but two of those hits combined to drive in seven runs, so talk about making the most of those chances.

Matt Waldron rebounded from his outing in the City of Brotherly Love to pitch seven shutout innings, striking out a season-high eight batters. Waldron’s 12 whiffs induced were the second most in the entire Triple-A game slate. The knuckleball was brilliant and allowed him to set up the four-seamer in a way that led to strikeouts. Waldron has remained a rock in the Chihuahuas’ rotation since returning from injury. Francis Pena walked two in a scoreless inning of relief, and Sean Reynolds pitched an inning but allowed four runs.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 6-2 vs Wichita) (44-38 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 1-for-3, First Career Double-A Home Run

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-4, RBI Double

Victor Lizarraga – 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K (39 pitches – 21 strikes)

Making his third start back from injury, Victor Lizarraga pitched into the third inning on 39 pitches. Lizarraga struck out one batter, allowing one run on three hits. Lizarraga will continue to stretch out in each subsequent outing, and his ability to pitch into the third was a good development as he rebuilds his strength. Jared Kollar threw 3.1 innings of relief, allowing a run on three hits and striking out two batters. After a 14.04 ERA in his first three outings with the Missions, he has posted a 1.86 ERA in his last four outings, striking out seven while walking only two in that span. Stephen Jones took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings of work.

The big story at the dish was Albert Fabian. The Santiago, DR native has made a remarkable comeback from a gruesome knee injury last season and is performing even better than before. Fabian clubbed his first Double-A homer of his career in the third inning, Marcos Castanon went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, scoring Devin Ortiz. Ripken Reyes and Kai Murphy each had two hits at the top of the lineup. Brandon Valenzuela threw out one of two attempted base stealers in the game, and the Missions’ defense turned four double plays in the loss.

Casty continues his good stretch at the plate with two hits, a double and an RBI. His offensive production tonight makes him the @FrostBank Player of the Game! pic.twitter.com/pdJzx33bDg

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-2 vs Quad Cities) (40-41 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 1-for-4, Home Run

Brendan Durfee – 2-for-3, Double, Sac Fly

Ian Koenig – 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (69 pitches – 47 strikes)

Right-hander Ian Koenig is finding his stride! The San Jose native struck out five in six scoreless innings of work, throwing only 69 pitches. Koenig was aided greatly by a pair of outfield assists; Braedon Karpathios threw behind the runner at first on a flyout to right to get the double play in the third inning, and Brandon Butterworth cut down the tying run at the plate in the fourth inning from left field. Fernando Sanchez allowed the tying run to score in the seventh inning, throwing two innings of one-run baseball. Cole Paplham entered in the ninth inning for the save, but loaded the bases with one out. A flair out to right field by Carter Frederick landed on the outfield grass and gave Quad Cities a 3-2 lead.

At the dish, it was the Brandon and Braedon Show! Brendan Durfee had two hits and scored Kai Roberts on a sacrifice fly in the third. Roberts reached base twice in the game and also stole the team’s lone successful stolen base. Ryan Jackson reached base twice, once via the walk, and Jack Costello hit his 15th double of the season. Costello is coming off his best month of the season and is continuing to find his slugging stroke that gave him success with the Storm at the end of 2024. Braedon Karpathios launched his 10th home run of the season, an opposite-field blast to give the team a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. Leo De Vries drew a walk in one of four trips to the plate, and the team went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight runners in the loss.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 7-2 vs Visalia) (37-45 on the season)

Yendry Rojas – 2-for-4, Double

Kaden Hollow – 1-for-5, RBI Double

Humberto Cruz – 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K (59 pitches – 34 strikes)

Humberto Cruz made his second start with Lake Elsinore, and his first on the road. The right-hander allowed three hits and two runs in the game. While his slider continued to look as sharp as it had early in the season, he was only able to get two strikeouts. He was successful at inducing ground ball outs, getting six of them in his outing. Kannon Kemp pitched in relief again, but struggled, allowing five runs in 3.2 innings. Kemp struck out two batters, while walking three and allowing six hits. Kemp’s last two outings have been in long relief of Cruz, and both have not been his most successful. Kemp’s velocity was still in its usual range, sitting at 93-95 on his fastball.

The Storm offense was unable to score after the second inning while the pitching staff allowed seven unanswered runs. The team made use of some great baserunning from the bottom of the order to score first, with Chase Valentine and Ryan Wilson pulling off a double steal to make the score 1-0. Valentine would score two batters later on a single by Kaden Hollow. Cobb Hightower reached base twice via the base by balls, and Yendry Rojas finished with a two-hit game. The team struck out 14 times as a unit, which played a role in their final 1-for-10 figure with runners in scoring position.

ACL Padres (Won 8-1 vs ACL Cubs) (11-37 on the season)

Donte Grant – 3-for-3, Home Run, Double, Five RBI

Luis De Leon – 3-for-4, RBI Triple, Two Stolen Bases

Dane Lais – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K (10 pitches – 3 strikes)

Right-hander Dane Lais, selected in the 13th round of the 2023 Draft, made his professional debut after missing the last two seasons due to Tommy John Surgery. The right-hander out of Oregon threw a scoreless first inning, inducing a double play to erase a one-out walk. Dariel Polanco pitched a masterful performance out of the bullpen, tossing 4.2 innings of one-run baseball, striking out four batters. Polanco filled the strike zone and generated eight ground ball outs, all in a successful day in the minor leagues. 5-foot-8 left-hander Joseph Herrera made his US debut, striking out three of four batters faced in a scoreless 1.1 innings.

Donte Grant led the Padres’ offense on Tuesday, as he finished with three hits, all for extra bases. Grant hit a two-run homer, a two-run double, and another RBI double just for good measure. Luis De Leon racked up three hits and one RBI in the game, stealing two bases, De Leon is now hitting .300 with a .792 OPS this season. Yoiber Ocopio walked twice and drove in one run, while Jose Sanabria hit an RBI single as part of a three-hit night. Kale Fountain did not play in the game, with Yimy Tovar taking the DH spot on rehab assignment; Tovar finished 1-for-5 with a run scored.

San Diego Padres 2023 13th round draft pick Dane Lais pitched 1 inning tonight in Arizona Complex League allowing just a BB. Lais underwent Tommy John and tonight was his first action as a pro. Padres beat the Cubs 8-1 tonight. Luis DeLeon 3 hits, Donte Grant 3 hits 5RBI.

DSL Padres Gold (Won 8-7 vs DSL Rays) (17-9 on the season)

Moises Valdez – 3-for-6, Walk-off RBI Single

Fabian Alcantara – 1-for-3, Home Run, Three RBI

Carlos Alvarez – 3 IP, 3 H, 4 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 3 K

In a back-and-forth affair, the DSL Padres Gold won in walk-off fashion. Moises Valdez played hero, hitting his third single of the game to score Eduarlin Tejeda for the walk-off. Tejeda finished with one hit and two walks in the game, and Fabian Alcantara continued to slug, launching his fifth home run of the DSL season. Alcantara drove in three runs, and Kevin Tamburini drove in one on an RBI single. Jhoan De La Cruz drew three walks in the game, and Deivid Coronil was 1-for-4 with a single and a walk.

Carlos Alvarez started for the Padres Gold, pitching three innings of four-run baseball. Two of the four runs were unearned, and Alvarez pitched one of his longer outings of the young season, which were positives for the young southpaw. Angel Sanchez and Florangel Vasquez each threw two innings of one-run baseball. Yoesmerli Beltre tossed a scoreless eighth inning, and Jeferson Villabona allowed the tying run to score in the ninth, but ultimately got the win.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 11-8 vs DSL Athletics) (15-11 on the season)

Sebastian Pena – 2-for-5, Double, Single, Two Runs Scored

Jose Bericoto – 1-for-5, Single, Three RBI

Marco Eluscat pitched three innings and allowed four runs, his most runs allowed this season. Eluscat walked three and struck out three batters, also allowing a home run. Guillermo Romero threw 0.2 scoreless frames before making way for Randoll Cruz, who allowed three runs in 1.1 innings. Jeuris Guzman allowed a run for the first time all season, failing to record an out. Gensy Aquino was the unsung hero for the Padres’ Brown’s pitching staff, tossing three scoreless innings to earn the win.

At the dish, Sebastian Pena had a multi-hit effort, scoring two runs. Jose Bericoto drove in three runs on a two-RBI single and an error. Abraham Bastidas had a double and two RBI as part of a two-hit game, and catcher Andres Garza picked up two RBI of his own on a two-RBI double. Darian Castillo scored two runs, as did Cristian Benavides. Tom Guerrero reached base on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and would later score a run.
