Dodgers Trade Idea Sends Andy Pages to Reds For Andrew Abbott in ‘Creative’ Deal originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
While the Los Angeles Dodgers are the top team in baseball this season, there are some questions in the starting rotation. Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tony Gonsolin, and many others are injured and will be out for a while.

With the injured rotation, there have been many potential trade ideas sending starting pitchers to the Dodgers. But, in a recent question-and-answer session with former MLB executive Jim Bowden in The Athletic, a “creative” trade idea was presented.
This trade idea would have the Dodgers sending All-Star game snub, and starting outfielder Andy Pages, to the Cincinnati Reds for All-Star pitcher Andrew Abbott.
“That’s a creative trade proposal.” Bowden wrote. “But Abbott has been one of the best left-handed starters in the National League, and the Reds shouldn’t trade him for a bat.”

While Bowden thinks the Reds shouldn’t do the trade, he does mention why he believes this fairly even deal would not be a good one to take for the Reds.

“However, Pages, who has one more year of team control than Abbott, should have been an All-Star, and this trade proposal is fair for both sides.” Bowden wrote. “But when it’s close, I side with starting pitching because of the scarcity.”
This trade idea is a bit far-fetched, as player-for-player deals involving players of this magnitude are rare. But if such a deal were to happen, the Dodgers’ starting rotation would easily be the best in baseball.
However, it’d come at the cost of hurting their already weak outfield. Michael Conforto hasn’t been good, hitting under .200 on the year. Trading Pages would leave a massive hole in the outfield.
While Abbott would be an amazing addition to the Dodgers’ rotation, this trade wouldn’t make sense for the Dodgers. While Bowden only declined the deal from the Reds’ side, for the Dodgers, this deal wouldn’t be a good one to take.
