Padres minor league affiliates went 4-1 on Wednesday.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 7-3 vs Las Vegas) (48-41 on the season)
Forrest Wall – 1-for-3, Single, Sac Fly, Three RBI

Luis Campusano – 2-for-4, Home Run, Double, Two Runs
Jackson Wolf – 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K (75 pitches – 51 strikes)
Left-hander Jackson Wolf delivered six innings of one-run baseball in his first quality start of the second half. Wolf struck out six batters while walking none, and threw 51 of his 75 pitches for strikes. It was a much-needed outing for Wolf, who struggled in the month of June. Wolf’s fastball command was much better in his start, and his velocity on the heater was also up 2.3 mph on average. Alek Jacob delivered 1.1 scoreless innings, and Jose Espada allowed two runs in 1.1 innings of his own.
Forrest Wall drove in three runs in the game, with two coming on an RBI single. Wall also delivered on a sacrifice fly. Luis Campusano hit his 14th home run of the season, finishing the game with two extra-base hits. If even 50% of his performance at Triple-A this season can carry over to the Major League level, it would be a much-needed boost to the Padres’ anemic catching corps. Tim Locastro hit an RBI triple in the ball game, and both Yonathan Perlaza & Rodolfo Duran hit RBI singles. Nate Mondou had a three-hit game, scoring two runs.
San Antonio Missions (Won 6-4 vs Wichita) (45-38 on the season)
Brandon Valenzuela – 2-for-4, Go-Ahead Two-Run Single
Moises Gomez – 1-for-4, Triple, Run Scored
Jagger Haynes – 5.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 7 K (73 pitches – 47 strikes)
Brandon Valenzuela continues to be the not-so-secret hero of San Antonio, as he once again delivered in the clutch. Valenzuela’s two-run single in the ninth inning gave the Missions a 6-4 lead that would be the final score. It was his second run-scoring hit of the game, as he also scored Moises Gomez in the first inning on an infield single. Francisco Acuna reached base three times, driving in one run. Marcos Castanon’s RBI single in the sixth inning gave the team a 3-2 lead at that stage of the game, and Ripken Reyes bunted to move two runners, but a fielding error allowed Kai Murphy to score.

Jagger Haynes pitched better than his final line indicated, as he punched seven tickets in 5.1 innings of work. The left-hander’s performance saw him allow only four hits, and the seven strikeouts he recorded matched the second-highest total of his whole season (also seven on May 15 @ Midland). Haynes walked two, which was better than his last outing (five walks), and if he can keep the walks down, he is in line for a strong second half. Andrew Moore pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, earning his second win of the season.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-0 vs Quad Cities) (40-43 on the season)
Leo De Vries – 1-for-4, Double
Brendan Durfee – 2-for-4, Two Singles
Sam Whiting – 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K (67 pitches – 37 strikes)
The TinCaps offense was held off the scoreboard, only accumulating four hits in a 5-0 loss. Leo De Vries got an extra-base hit in the game, his 16th double of the season. Brendan Durfee hit two singles in the loss, and Rosman Verdugo continued to reach base, reaching on a single. The offense’s lack of production left little room for error for starter Sam Whiting, who lasted into the third inning. Whiting allowed two runs on three hits, striking out four batters. Both runs allowed by Whiting scored in the first inning, and at one point, Whiting retired four of his final five batters faced. Nick Wissman delivered 2.1 innings on 19 pitches, striking out three batters. Sean Barnett allowed three runs in one inning of work, struggling early with his command. Luis German struck out three in two scoreless innings, and Ruben Galindo struck out one batter in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
It might be time to start keeping an eye on @TinCaps reliever Luis Germán.
A rough month of May inflated his numbers, but the 23y/o was dealing this afternoon, striking out three batters in two scoreless innings.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 10-4 vs Visalia) (38-45 on the season)
Cobb Hightower – 2-for-5, Two Doubles, Run Scored
Zach Evans – 1-for-5, Three-RBI Double
Kash Mayfield – 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 2 K (54 pitches – 36 strikes)
Kash Mayfield tossed three innings of two-run baseball, striking out two batters. Mayfield had to work harder than he was used to, averaging 18 pitches per frame. Despite the outing being abbreviated, Mayfield continues to build upon every outing with confidence and vigor. Kleiber Olmedo allowed two runs in two innings of relief. Tanner Smith earned the win, striking out three in two innings of work. Adam Conrad closed out the game with two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth.
Cobb Hightower hit two doubles in the win, scoring once. Hightower flashed impressive exit velocities, hitting the baseball at 105 mph on one of his doubles per the broadcast. Ryan Wilson had two hits and drove in three runs, and Zach Evans’ three-run double gave the Storm a lead they would preserve. Victor Figueroa hit a double and drove on a run, and Yendry Rojas drove in two runs of his own.
ACL Padres (Won 7-3 vs ACL Mariners) (12-37 on the season)
Kasen Wells – 2-for-5, Two RBI Singles
Gustavo Marquez – 2-for-2, Double, Single, Two RBI
Langston Burkett – 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
In the words of former Padre Eric Show, “Padres win again!” The ACL Padres rattled off a second consecutive win, winning 7-3 over the ACL Mariners. Kasen Wells played in his first game on rehab assignment, hitting two singles and driving in two runs. Yimy Tovar, also on rehab assignment, finished 1-for-3. Jack Mathey scored two runs, reaching base three times. Gustavo Marquez has moved on from his season-opening slump, hitting a single and double, with two runs scoring on his fourth inning single.
Langston Burkett made the start for the ACL Padres and looked utterly dominant, striking out five in three scoreless innings. Rordy Mejia earned his first stateside win, pitching two innings and striking out three. Xavier Ruiz generated a double play in a scoreless inning of work, and Alejandro Lugo allowed one run in his inning of relief. Yovannki Pascual allowed one run on four hits in two innings, striking out three.
