ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – It may not be the Field of Dreams, but it sure is a diamond in the rough.
Fans of all ages can enjoy the best the baseball has to offer at the All-Star Village inside the Cobb Galleria.
“We have a field. We built a field, not like Field of Dreams but we did build it and hopefully they will come,” said Robert Field, MLB senior manager of global events. “You can certainly go there and learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball from some of our guest coaches.”
In addition to an interactive baseball diamond, there are batting cages, pitching cages and the world’s largest baseball.
“If you are not a baseball fan hopefully you come to this and become a baseball fan. If you’re not a softball fan hopefully you come to this and become a softball fan,” Field said.
Also on display, a giant world series trophy and displays looking back at the history of America’s pastime. But perhaps the highlight on our tour was getting a chance to wear this year’s home run derby champion chain.
“We have autograph sessions starting at 11:00 a.m. each day and runs on the hours, so fans will be able to sign up and get their autograph from the player and then it gets authenticated, and they can see it when they get home on MLB.com,” Field said.
The All-Star Village will open to baseball fans on Saturday and run through Tuesday for $35 per ticket.
“We were here last time in 2000, and it took us 25 years to get back here, and we want people to experience this as a whole and take in all the atmosphere,” Field said.
