Torrington Tigers’ baseball player Ayden Desmond has signed to play collegiately at Peru State College in Nebraska. Desmond has been limited by an injury and has not played much in the 2025 season. He has earned first-team all-conference honors three times in his Legion baseball career and was named all-state three times, as well. He was a first-team selection in 2023 and a second-team honoree in 2022 and 2024.
An injury has restricted Desmond to only five games played this year. Ayden’s batting average is .267 across 21 plate appearances. He has four hits and four RBIs. Demond appeared in only one game for 2.1 innings as a pitcher and got the win.
In the 2024 season, Ayden was 5-5 with one save and a 3.840 earned run average on the mound. He threw 58.1 innings over 16 appearances with 12 starts. Desmond allowed 49 runs, 74 hits, walked 14, and struck out 65 batters. Opponents had a .291 batting average against him. At the plate, Desmond had a .385 batting average with 52 total hits, 39 RBIs, and 64 runs scored. That earned him a second-team all-state award.
In 2023, Desmond was a first-team all-state pick. He went 11-3 with two saves on the mound. Ayden’s ERA was 1.529. He allowed 45 runs on 72 hits with 19 walks and 73 strikeouts. Desmond threw 68.2 innings over 24 appearances with 12 starts. He had a .391 batting average with 63 hits, 42 RBIs, and 57 runs scored.
Desmond hit .360 in the 2022 season with 40 total hits, 28 RBIs, and 30 runs scored. He threw 56 innings over 11 starts. Ayden was 4-1 with a 4.00 ERA.
Ayden starred at Southeast High School in Yoder. He was a two-time all-state and three-time all-conference football player. Desmond was a three-time all-state and four-time all-conference basketball player for the Cyclones.
Peru State College is in Peru, NE. The Bobcats compete at the NAIA level of collegiate athletics. They are in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).
