The Texas Rangers scored eleven runs while the Anaheim Angels scored four runs.
I am just about tapped out on west coast games after a full week of ‘em. Luckily, the hitters on the Rangers seem to have had a good time. Though Texas only finished 3-4 on the first two legs of this road trip, the bats got hot in Orange County.
The Rangers scored a total of 37 runs in this four-game series, by far the most in any one set this season with an average of nearly ten runs per game. Tonight, the Rangers scored in double digits for the second time in the series with all but Josh Smith and Alejandro Osuna contributing a hit, though every member of the lineup reached at least once.
Texas opened the scoring in the first inning with a couple of runs and then essentially put the game out of reach with a seven-run outburst in the top of the third. After an entire season of RISP frustrations, tonight the Rangers batted over .500 when given the opportunity to drive in a run, going 7-for-13 overall.
In addition, unlike last night, the pitching held up while the lineup was raking. Tonight’s starter Patrick Corbin allowed two runs in five innings while Jacob Latz essentially was his tandem with 3 1⁄3 innings of ‘pen-resting relief.
It still feels like the Rangers left a lot of meat on the bone in the seven games in California, but not tonight. They licked the plate with this one. Now it’s time to see if they can bring the lumber with them back to Texas.
Player of the Game: There was a lot to like from the lineup tonight but Adolis Garcia was the only guy to go deep in the blowout. Overall, El Bombi went 2-for-5 with a couple of runs scored, a team-high three RBIs, and also a key outfield assist as he threw out a runner at home when the contest was still in question.
Up Next: Tonight was an Arte Moreno special meaning the Rangers had to play late on a getaway day. Now they have to fly back to Houston in the middle of the night before taking on the Astros in the first half finale series beginning tomorrow night.
The Friday evening first pitch from Daikin Park is scheduled for 7:10 pm CT and will be carried on an OTA telecast.
