MLB Insider Says AL-Best Tigers Need Reinforcements, Expects Moves Before Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal went on FS1’s First Things First and had plenty to say about the Detroit Tigers.

“I expect them to seek reinforcements at the deadline on the pitching side,” said Rosenthal when asked about their plans ahead of the deadline. “They could use one more starter, some more bullpen help as well.”

Rosenthal is as plugged in as anybody that works around the league. If there were any indications the Tigers were going to stand pat and not make any deals, we would have heard about them.

It makes all the sense in the world for the Tigers to make a big trade at this time of year. They have the best record in the American League, a young roster and a loaded farm system. Now is the time to bring in some proven vets to get a shot at a World Series.

But, does that best record mean they are the best team?

“Best team in baseball might be a little strong…the Dodgers certainly are a team that is going to be formidable, and the Cubs as well.”

Hear that, Detroit? You can be demolishing everyone you play and people still won’t believe in you. Sure, Rosenthal tried to save it after by claiming the Tigers are “playing” the best right now, but he is just hedging.

The only way the Tigers will truly get national respect is if they win the whole damn thing. The moves they have made to get to this point tell me they have at least a good a shot as anyone.
