Laramie centerfielder and pitcher Diego Herrera will continue playing baseball at the next level after signing with Western Nebraska Community College. Herrera has been a three-year starter for the Rangers at the Double-A level of American Legion Baseball. He has helped Laramie to a 22-30 record so far this season.

Herrera is the third-leading hitter on the Rangers in 2025. He has a .318 batting average and leads the team with 49 hits. Herrera has 29 RBIs, 41 runs scored, and leads the team with 21 stolen bases. The senior has seen some spot pitching duty this year. He is 1-3 with a 6.731 ERA over nine appearances. Diego has thrown 26 innings and allowed 34 runs on 39 hits. He has walked 18 batters and struck out 20.

In 2024, Herrera helped Laramie to a 33-32 record and a final-four finish at the state tournament. Diego had a .278 batting average with 49 total hits, 17 RBIs, and 43 runs scored. He made only six appearances on the mound. Herrera went 1-2 with an ERA of 6.00.

Back in the 2023 season, Laramie finished 28-32 in Herrera’s first season at the AA level. He had a .304 batting average with 52 total hits. Diego finished with 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored. The Rangers finished in the top four at the state tournament.

Herrera also played football and competed in indoor track at Laramie High School.

Western Nebraska is in Scottsbluff, NE. The Cougars compete in Region IX of NJCAA.
