PURVIS, Miss. (WDAM) – JoJo and Jacob Parker have shined on Purvis High School’s varsity baseball team since they were in the seventh grade.
This weekend, their baseball dreams will be turned into a reality at the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft.
Shortstop JoJo Parker is expected to hear his name called early in the first round of the draft.
MLB.com has the Purvis grad listed as its ninth-ranked prospect.
His twin, Jacob, isn’t far behind, as he’s ranked at No. 109.
As the two prepare to potentially turn professional, coaches and teammates have preached about the excellence of their character.
“JoJo’s more of a doer, and Jacob’s more of a thinker,” former teammate Drew Swan said.
“If you tell JoJo to go do something, he’s going to go do it. And if you do the same with Jake, he’s going to think about it for a minute, and then he’ll go do it.”
And as teammates, JoJo was more of a vocal leader, and Jacob was a leader through his actions, Swan said.
Purvis assistant baseball coach Justin Crosby has watched the Parkers develop for many years.
He said he’s been impressed with the way they’ve handled the attention of being top, high school baseball prospects.
“I don’t want to necessarily say they have the weight of the city on their back, but everybody knows the Parkers” Crosby said. “Everybody knows how good they are in this area, and this is a baseball area.
“For them to handle the pressure and for them to do what they needed to do to put themselves in this position. Not only for us, our program, to be really good, but for them as well to be able to represent at the highest level possible in the Major League Draft is really a cool deal, and it couldn’t happen to two better kids.” Crosby said.
The MLB Draft begins at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Washington Nationals hold the No. 1 overall pick.
