The Dodgers’ seven-game losing streak is now a thing of the past, as they kept the San Francisco Giants at bay in a 2-1 victory at Oracle Park.

Shohei Ohtani took the mound for the fifth time this season, and Dave Roberts increased his leash by tasking the two-way star to go three innings.

Ohtani got his day going with a four-pitch strikeout of Mike Yastrzemski before blowing 98, 99, and 100 mile per hour fastballs by Heliot Ramos for his second straight strikeout. Ohtani needed just four more pitches to set down Rafael Devers and strike out the side, doing so in two consecutive innings dating back to his previous start against the Houston Astros.

Michael Conforto continued to haunt his old team with a leadoff single to right field in the second inning against Landon Roupp. Conforto advanced to third after Andy Pages dribbled a ground ball up the middle that was sprawled by Willy Adames, but an errant flip to the second base bag that sailed past Casey Schmitt to put runners at the corners. Tommy Edman placed a ground ball to the right side to score Conforto and give the Dodgers a one run lead.

Ohtani found himself in some trouble after walking Jung-hoo Lee with two outs, but managed to induce a popup of Schmitt to record two scoreless innings. Ohtani once again put a baserunner on with two outs in the third inning, this time with a single from Yastrzemski, but Ohtani got Ramos to fly out on just two pitches, finishing three scoreless innings on just 36 pitches.

Ohtani has now thrown a full nine innings in a Dodgers uniform, and he has posted a 1.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts allowing just five hits and two walks.

Emmet Sheehan came in relief of Ohtani in the bottom of the fourth and found himself in some early trouble after walking two of his first three hitters faced on 12 pitches. Sheehan got Lee to fly out one one pitch before Schmitt attacked the first pitch he saw, but Teoscar Hernández read it perfectly to help Sheehan escape further damage.

Michael Conforto had his second three hit game of the season, as he rocketed his third single of the day the other way, joining Hyeseong Kim as the only Dodgers with three-hit games in the month of July. Speaking of Kim, he managed to stay behind an 0-2 breaking pitch from Roupp and roped it the other way for an RBI single, scoring Conforto and giving the Dodgers a necessary insurance run.

Sheehan flirted with a no-hitter until the eighth inning, as Patrick Bailey lined a single to right field for the Giants’ first hit since the third inning. Sheehan put Yastrzemski on with a four pitch walk, with Ramos following suit with a rocket single up the middle. Bailey got the sign from Matt Williams to score, but surprisingly held up at third to keep the bases loaded.

Alex Vesia came in to face the lefty Devers, and lefty slugger put the Giants on the board with a sacrifice fly. Vesia got Chapman to ground into a fielder’s choice to keep the Dodger lead at one run. Tanner Scott struck out two in the ninth inning to secure his 19th save of the season and finally put an end to the Dodgers’ longest losing streak in eight years.
