ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Atlanta Braves sought to address their shortstop needs by selecting Basic High School (Nevada) senior Tate Southisene with the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft Sunday evening.

Southisene is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound power hitter who’s brother Ty went in the fourth round to the Chicago Cubs in last year’s draft.

The 18-year old committed to play baseball for Southern Cal, but whenever he lands in the Braves’ organization, his athleticism and speed could get him looks at center field as well. Some mock drafts predicted the Braves would select Golden Spikes Award winner and Arkansas star shortstop Wehiwa Aloy. But the Southisene selection is far from shabby.

Southisene is considered the 39th ranked prospect overall, according to mlb.com.
