Jacob Morrison struggled as a freshman in college, then blew out his elbow. He missed his entire sophomore year. As a junior at Coastal Carolina, he broke out on a national stage at the College World Series.
Now, he’s a third-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Morrison, an imposing 6-foot-8 right-hander armed with an imposing fastball, rounded out Milwaukee’s five picks on Day 1 of the draft July 1 at pick 94 overall.
Originally from Saginaw, Michigan, Morrison was the Sun Belt pitcher of the year in 2025, working to a 2.42 ERA as a workhorse who covered 107 ⅔ innings in his first year back from Tommy John surgery.
Morrison showed out at the College World Series, helping to lead the Chanticleers to a national runner-up finish with a dominant outing against Oregon State in which he retired 16 in a row and covered 7 ⅔ innings. He improved to 12-0 on the year with the win, though he was the losing pitcher in the final game of the championship series to LSU.
Some of Morrison’s metrics in college were elite, including a 98th percentile chase rate and 97th percentile walks-per-nine rate.
