It was a successful softball season in Progressland, with all seven teams enjoying several wins.
Three of the seven Progressland softball teams made their respective district title game, while two more participated in the playoffs.
None of the three came away with a district championship, but two of those teams went on to the state playoffs, where they saw their seasons finally end.
West Branch (15-6), Curwensville (14-7) and Philipsburg-Osceola (14-8) all had double-digit wins in 2025.
Both Curwensville and P-O made their district title games, the Lady Mounties for the first time in seven years. That helped sway the Coach of the Year nod to Philipsburg-Osceola’s Mike Herr in his first year at the helm of the Lady Mounties.
The Player of the Year race once again came down to some hard-swinging pitchers — Curwensville’s Addison Siple, Glendale’s Madison Peterson, Philipsburg-Osceola’s Alivia Bizzarri and West Branch’s Makena Moore.
In the end, it was a repeat honor for Moore, who led the area in strikeouts and batting average.
Here is how the team breaks down:
Player of the Year — Makena Moore, West Branch: Moore was 12-5 this season with a 2.26 ERA. She led Progressland with 226 strikeouts. In 111 2/3 innings pitched, she allowed just 36 earned runs and 68 hits. She also committed no errors at the position this season.

The Clarion University commit was named to the Moshannon Valley League and Inter County Conference first team this season. She also garnered all-state honors for the third season in a row. This is her fourth time on the Progressland all-star team, taking player of the year honors last season, making the first team in 2023 and second team in 2022.
Coach of the Year — Mike Herr, Philipsburg-Osceola: In his inaugural year at the helm of the Lady Mounties, Herr accomplished a ton. He led P-O to a 14-8 record. Philipsburg-Osceola upset top-seeded Forest Hills in the District 6 2A quarterfinals before falling to Bald Eagle Area in the Class 2A title game. It was the first time in seven years P-O had made the championship game. The Lady Mounties season ended with a state playoff loss to Susquenita.
