Carlos Mendoza’s New York Mets never led in their 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs, but they applied pressure. After going down 4-0, Brett Baty hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning before smacking a two-run shot in the eighth.

However, Miguel Amaya hit a two-run single for the Cubs in the top of the eighth, and the Mets couldn’t score in the ninth.

“I’ll take my chances every night, as long as we continue to put guys on base,” he said. “More times than not, those guys will come through.”

New York fans on social media aren’t satisfied with his statement.

“But they are not coming through more times than not. Like that’s the whole thing lol,” one person said.

“If they were coming through more times than not we wouldn’t be losing all these close games cuz THEY CAN NEVER GET THE BIG HIT LATE IN THE GAME!!!!!!” another one said.
