Former Penn State baseball outfielder Paxton Kling was selected by the Texas Rangers in the seventh round with the No. 205 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Kling became Penn State’s first draft pick in the MLB Draft since Jay Harry and Daniel Ouderkirk were both drafted in 2023’s MLB Draft. The only Nittany Lion to still be picked in the first five rounds is Matthew Wood, going in the fourth round to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022.
The outfielder spent his first two seasons with LSU before transferring to Penn State last season. In his junior season with the Nittany Lions, he hit a career-high 13 home runs with a team-high .358 batting average and 15 stolen bases. In the process, he became the first Nittany Lion to hit 13 home runs and steal 15 bags in a season.
Kling also earned a lot of accolades this season as he was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team following the regular season. Now, he will have the option of joining the Rangers or return to Penn State for his senior season.
