Northeastern University teammates Jordan Gottesman and Cam Maldonado anchored one of the most successful seasons in program history. Now, they’re continuing their baseball journey together in the San Francisco Giants organization.
Gottesman, a left-handed pitcher, was selected in the sixth round (No. 176 overall) of the 2025 MLB draft. Maldonado, a center fielder, followed in the seventh round (No. 206 overall).
The two were key contributors to a Northeastern team that finished 49-11, won the Coastal Athletic Association tournament for just the second time and earned a spot in the 2025 NCAA tournament. The Huskies posted a 27-game win streak, the longest in the country this season, and led Division 1 with a 2.92 team ERA.
Gottesman, a 6-foot-1 graduate student from Acton, Massachusetts, went 9-2 with a 2.27 ERA in 83.1 innings with 97 strikeouts and a .185 opponent batting average.
Maldonado, a 6-foot-3 junior from Wolcott, Connecticut, batted .351 with 15 home runs, 59 RBIs, 29 stolen bases and a 1.098 OPS in 60 games. He had 120 outfield putouts and did not commit an error all season.
This marks the second straight year that multiple Northeastern players were selected in the top seven rounds of the MLB draft.
Last year, center fielder Mike Sirota and right-handed pitcher Dennis Colleran both had their names called on day two of the draft, with Sirota going to the Cincinnati Reds in the third round, and Colleran going to the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round.
Gottesman and Maldonado became the 62nd and 63rd MLB draft picks in Northeastern history. The Huskies have had at least one draftee in each of the last eight drafts under coach Mike Glavine.
