HOUSTON, Texas (WLUC) – The gritty Detroit Tigers have advanced in the Major League Baseball playoffs after a two-game sweep of the Houston Astros in an American League Wild Card Series.
Detroit won 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Houston. The Tigers beat the Astros 3-1 on Tuesday. This is Detroit’s postseason series win since 2013.
Detroit will take on Cleveland in a best-of-five game AL Division Series starting Saturday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the 6th with a solo home run from Parker Meadows.
Houston scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th, but Detroit responded in the 8th with four runs.
The Tigers tied the game on a passed ball, and then Andy Ibanez cleared the bases on a pinch-hit double, putting the Tigers up 5-2 over the Astros in the eighth inning.
As Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said, Detroit used “pitching chaos” as seven different pitchers took the mound, starting with Tyler Holton. Combined, Tigers pitching gave up five hits, two runs and three walks while striking out five batters.

ALDS Game 3 in Detroit is Wednesday at a TBA time.
