The Orcutt 14U Babe Ruth All Stars made short work Saturday of their final pre-regional tune-up.
Orcutt defeated the Thousand Oaks Knights 10-0 in a Gold Bracket game in a travel ball tournament that Orcutt hosted at Morrison Park, Orcutt Babe Ruth’s home site. The game on Morrison Field was called after the bottom of the fourth inning because of the run rule.
Eli Solis scored the last run, the run Orcutt needed for the 10-run margin for the game to end, when he sprinted home on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth.Â
Orcutt will host the double elimination Babe Ruth 14U Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament July 20-26 at Morrison Field.
Saturday, Orcutt tied the Bulls Baseball Club 3-3 at Morrison before defeating the Knights.
Orcutt won the 14U Central California state tournament July 2 at Morrison. Going into the regional, “We’re not as sharp as we could be,” Orcutt manager Jose Nevarez said after his team won Saturday.
“There are things when it comes to defense and base running that need to be cleaned up. The bats were good,” Saturday, said Nevarez.
The Orcutt hitters got rolling early. In short order, Rob Reynoso hit an RBI double, Zander Andersen walloped an RBI triple, and Easton Verbryke and Julian Romero both doubled in a run in a four-run Orcutt first inning.

Orcutt scored three times in the second, via a Mason Padilla double, an Andersen sacrifice fly and a Verbryke single.
Padilla scored on a wild pitch in the fourth then Ozzie Gerfen singled home Reynoso. Solis scored shortly thereafter on the passed ball.
Dom Quiroga bolstered the Orcutt offense by pitching a complete game.
“I threw mostly fastballs,” to get the job done, Quiroga said.
“I didn’t pitch in the state tournament. My main position is utility, mostly outfield.”
Thousand Oaks right fielder Leo Wolfe provided the biggest highlight for the Knights by starting a triple play in the third inning.
Wolfe made a diving catch of a fly ball for the first out then threw to second base to double off Antonio Vargas for the second out. Josiah Curiel was caught off first base, and the triple play was complete.
