With their 17th round pick in draft, the Pirates select OF Carter Gwost!

Gwost, currently committed to Nebraska, looks like a very solid bat overall. Flashed some really good power, hit tool looks decent as well.

Really loving this class.

the Flyers

.

The website Perfect Game ranks Gwost as the 63rd-ranked pitching prospect in Minnesota overall and the 12th-ranked lefthanded pitcher in the state. NCSA College Recruiting website lists Gwost’s fastball velocity as 83 mph.

“I’m kind of late to the party,” Gwost told the website HuskerExtra in August 2024. “I’m one of those guys who slipped under the radar for a while and developed late. Then I had a good summer.”

Gwost visited Nebraska last July and received an offer.

“I didn’t find a place that came even close to Nebraska,” Gwost said. “It was an easy decision for me.”

As a junior, Gwost led the Flyers with a .433 average. He recorded 29 hits including nine doubles, one triple and three home runs. He scored 26 runs and tallied 15 RBI. He walked 22 times to four strikeouts and stole 16 bases.

Although Gwost signed as a two-way player, he said Nebraska likes him more as an outfielder.

“We will see how my spring goes on the mound and go from there,” Gwost told the Brainerd Dispatch in November 2024. “At the moment they like me more as an outfielder, but they have talked about having me on the mound and I think they see I have potential there.”

Gwost is the third in his family to commit to play college baseball. His oldest brother Alex Gwost played baseball at

St. John’s

while his other older brother Zach Gwost plays at Luther College.

Their father, Rusty Gwost, played his college baseball at Minnesota State-Mankato.
