Nevada’s Peyton Fosher was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 19th round (No. 558 overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday.
The Tomball, Texas, native joined Nevada in 2024 after two seasons (2022-23) at Angelina College. He went 9-7 over 29 starts, striking out 127 in 138.0 innings of work. Fosher was the Wolf Pack’s Friday starter this past year and shared the team lead in wins (6-4 overall), led the team in strikeouts (77) and innings pitched (76.2). He was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week March 31 after his series-opening win over Washington State in which he matched his career high of nine strikeouts over seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball.
Fosher had four outings this past season with at least seven strikeouts, with highs of nine in the season opener at California (Feb. 14) and against the Cougars. He heated up in the home stretch of the campaign, going 3-0 with 23 strikeouts over his final four starts.
The right-handed pitcher is Nevada’s 10th MLB Draft selection since 2019 and the fifth over the program’s three seasons under head coach Jake McKinley. Fosher joins JR Freethy (No. 427 overall in 2024 MLB Draft, Toronto Blue Jays), Jason Doktorczyk (No. 278 overall in 2024 MLB Draft, Minnesota Twins), Peyton Stumbo (No. 587 overall in 2023 MLB Draft, Pittsburgh Pirates) and Kade Morris (No. 101 overall in 2023 MLB Draft, New York Mets) as the latest Wolf Pack player to be drafted during McKinley’s tenure.
Reno native Grayson Grinsell was also selected in the 2025 MLB Draft in the sixth round by the Detroit Tigers.
