Tarik Skubal is American League starting pitcher for MLB All-Star Game

The most-anticipated MLB All-Star Game in years (at least for the Detroit Tigers) is finally here.
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game takes place at Truist Park in Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Braves, with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on Fox and can be streamed on Fubo, which offers a free trial.
The Tigers have six players in the All-Star Game: second baseman Gleyber Torres, outfielders Riley Greene and Javier Báez, utility player Zach McKinstry and starting pitchers Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize.
Torres, Greene, Báez and Skubal were all selected as starters, while McKinstry and Mize were selected as replacements. The six Tiger All-Stars mark a franchise record, tying the 2025 Tigers with the 1984-85 team and 2013 team for the most Tigers sent to the All-Star Game.
American League manager Aaron Boone named Skubal the starter, with the lefty facing off against Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, the starting pitcher for the American League, and Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes, the starting pitcher for the National League, shared a cool moment in an interview aired during the Fox pregame show.
Skenes was asked what he knew about Skubal before he reached the majors, after which Skubal asked Skenes what college offers he had out of high school.
Skenes responded, “Two, Air Force and Navy.” To which Skubal answered that he only had one out of high school, to Seattle University (which he accepted). Both pitchers seemed to appreciate how far they had gotten in their respective careers, from few college opportunities to starters at the All-Star Game.
Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres, who is set to play in his third All-Star Game, will be batting leadoff for the American League. He is the first Tiger to bat first in the All-Star Game since Lou Whitaker in the 1984 All-Star Game.
