A pair of former Nevada baseball right-handed pitchers in Nico Wagner and Easton Marks were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Wagner, a South Lake Tahoe native, was selected in the 16th round (No. 487th overall) by the Atlanta Braves. Wagner prepped at South Tahoe High and spent the 2024 season at Nevada. During his time in Silver and Blue, he made 12 appearances, including two starts and struck out 16 over 19.2 innings. In 2025, he pitched at West Valley College, a junior college in Saratoga, Calif. During his lone season at West Valley, he appeared in 18 games, with 15 starts. He compiled a 9-2 record and struck out 94 batters in 95.1 innings.
Marks was selected by his hometown team, the Colorado Rockies, in the 19th round (No. 557 overall). The right-handed pitcher spent the 2023-24 at Nevada before playing last season at FIU. In two seasons at Nevada, he appeared in 19 games with 12 starts and struck out 55 in 56.1 innings. Last season at FIU, he started in all 14 games he pitched in. The Colorado native led the team in innings pitched (67), strikeouts (72) and posted a 3.49 ERA.
Marks and Wagner join Nevada pitcher Peyton Fosher, who was selected selected by the Miami Marlins in 19th round (No. 558 overall) of the 2025 MLB Draft. Reno native Grayson Grinsell was also selected in the sixth round (No. 189 overall) by the Detroit Tigers.
