With the Atlanta Braves up north for a series against the Toronto Blue Jays, college baseball is coming to their home ballpark. Truist Park will host the 22nd edition of the Spring Baseball Classic between Georgia and Georgia Tech Tuesday night.
The two in-state rivals have met annually in a neutral-site game in one of Georgia’ MLB or minor league stadiums since 2003. This will be the first year the game is held at Truist Park since 2019.

This year’s game has higher stakes than normal, which makes an MLB ballpark a fitting setting. No. 5 Georgia and No. 14 Georgia Tech will meet as top-15 teams in their only scheduled meeting this season. In On3’s latest college baseball bracket predictions, both teams are projected to host a regional.

Georgia rose in this week’s national rankings after winning its weekend series against Arkansas, the No. 1 team in the nation at the time. Wes Johnson has revived the Bulldogs’ program in just two years as head coach. Before Johnson’s arrival, Georgia had not won a regional since 2008, but won and hosted a regional in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Georgia Tech is coming off a three-game sweep of California over the weekend. The Yellow Jackets sit in first place in the ACC with a 14-4 conference record. After being picked 10th in the ACC preseason poll, the Yellow Jackets have exceeded expectations.
Longtime Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall is coaching his 32nd and final season with the program. Hall is looking to lead Georgia Tech to a regional championship for the first time since 2006 in his final year at the helm.
With both teams in the national championship picture, Tuesday’s game should have a solid crowd. The 2004 edition of the rivalry had the 3rd-largest regular season crowd in college baseball history with 28,836 attendees. That number will be hard to beat, but Tuesday’s game is bound to have a great atmosphere.
