NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) – Play Ball! The parks and recreation division of Norfolk, Nebraska received a home-run grant to upgrade its ballfields for future star athletes.

On Friday, January 10, the city of Norfolk Park and Recreation Division announced it has received a generous $15,000 grant from the Kansas City Royal Foundation.

The foundation is a charity program of the Kansas City Royals Major League Baseball Organization, according to the Parks and Recreation division.

“This is an exciting partnership for our community. Grants like this from the Kansas City Royal Foundation for their generous donation in support of our ball fields at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. This contribution will play a pivotal role in helping us complete much-needed improvement at the Kohler Softball Complex.” said Nathan Powell, Parks and Recreation Director.

Powell also says the organization’s commitment to improving local sports facilities will have a lasting impact on athletes and families that use the ball fields. He also says the Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to continue working with the department to create a safe and enjoyable environment for the community.

Ta-Ha-Zouka Park is located at 2201 S. 13th St. in Norfolk, Nebraska.

These improvements to the park include upgrades to the backstop, press box and umpire changing rooms. The funding will also be used to make playground enhancements.

Shane Clausen, the Mayor of Norfolk says the city is grateful for the foundation’s support and looks forward to seeing the impact that the grant will have on Norfolk.

“This is an exciting partnership for our community. Grants like this from the Kansas City Royals Foundation make a real difference,” said Clausen, “They help us create new spaces like the Kohler Sports Complex, which brings people together and give our young athletes a place to grow and succeed.”

The Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging the community of Norfolk to stay tuned for updates on the Kohler Sports Complex. They also are looking forward to celebrating the completion of the improvements with everyone who has a passion for community growth and a love of the game.
