ESPN college football insider Heather Dinich joins On Second Thought to discuss how the newly passed House Settlement will affect college athletics.
Two Texas State baseball players were drafted Monday evening in the 2025 MLB Draft. The Kansas City Royals drafted pitcher Bryson Dudley in the seventh round with the 218th pick, while the Miami Marlins selected fellow pitcher Carson Laws in the 14th round with the 408th pick.
Another pitcher, Matthew Tippie, also signed a free-agent deal with the New York Yankees.
Dudley transferred from Blinn College for the 2025 season and recorded a 5-1 record, a 3.91 ERA and a .185 batting average against, the lowest in program history. His final appearance in a Texas State uniform came in the Sun Belt Tournament against Appalachian State. The right-hander recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts, walked none and allowed only two hits in a 3-0 victory. It was also only Dudley’s second start and the only time he reached nine innings pitched.
Laws attended Midland College before making the move to Texas State. A right-handed reliever, he led the Sun Belt with eight saves and finished his career with a 4.31 ERA. Laws also racked up 52 strikeouts in 37â…“ innings pitched.Â
Tippie entered the transfer portal in the offseason before committing to Alabama in June. He signed with the Yankees after spending two years in San Marcos with a 4-3 record, two saves and a 4.11 ERA in 67⅓ innings. Tippie led Texas State with 73 strikeouts. In March, he and Law combined with Jesus Tovar to shut out Coastal Carolina, an eventual College World Series Finalist.
