CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Cincinnati Reds have traded catcher Austin Wynns to the Athletics in exchange for cash considerations. The move comes after Wynns was designated for assignment on June 6, following Tyler Stephenson’s return from the injured list.
The 34-year-old joined the Reds on a minor league deal during the offseason and was called up on Opening Day. He impressed with a .390/.429/.661 slash line in 63 plate appearances, earning the highest wRC+ (198) in Reds history for players with at least 60 plate appearances, per mlbtraderumors.com.
Wynns is expected to provide temporary relief for the A’s catching situation, filling the void left by Shea Langeliers, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique.
The Reds have Stephenson and Jose Trevino as catchers on the roster.
