Socorro High School alum Daniel Lopez was picked in the 12th round of the Major League Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, the 364th pick overall.

The 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher graduated from Socorro in 2024 when he was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team, then played this past season for Odessa College.

Lopez started six games and had 16 appearances for OC, going 6-2 with a save and compiling a 4.89 earned-run average.

As a senior at Socorro, where he was more of a position player, he hit .479 with 10 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 28 RBIs. On the mound, he went 3-2 with two saves and he also participated in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game.
