The Texas Rangers scored ten runs while the Detroit Tigers scored three runs.

If you want some runs in support of your effort as a member of the Texas Rangers’ pitching staff, you’d better be named Jacob deGrom. Perhaps the bats just respect the living legend too much to let him down.

In deGrom’s last three outings, the Rangers have scored 15, 8, and now 10 runs tonight. That’s a total of 33 runs, an average of 11 runs per game. Since April 26, their last full day in first place, the Rangers combined to score 19 runs in the eleven non-deGrom games, an average of 1.7 runs per game.

Texas scored in double figures thanks in part to five home runs, as the ball was flying out of Comerica Park. Ironically, the Rangers only had one hit in RISP situations but they made the most of their nine hits on the night by also drawing six walks.

Josh Smith led off the game with a home run to bring good tidings, and Corey Seager returned to the lineup and hit a couple of dongs. Perhaps most encouraging was Evan Carter uncorking a solo blast for his first big league home run since April 26 of last season while Joc Pederson connected for his first home run as a Ranger.

Welcome to the party, Joc!

Player of the Game: After missing a couple of games, Seager had a team-best three hits, three runs, and three RBI to go along with his two dingers. Glad to have you back, MVP.

Up Next: The Rangers and Tigers close out this series with a rubber match wherein RHP Nathan Eovaldi will take the bump for Texas opposite RHP Reese Olson for Detroit.

The Sunday afternoon first pitch from Comerica Park is set for 12:40 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
