The suspension of former Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Julio Urias ends Wednesday, making him eligible to sign with a Major League Baseball team as soon as Thursday.

Urias was suspended for the first half of the 2025 season for a domestic violence incident that occurred in September 2023 outside BMO Stadium following an LAFC game.

Urias was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence and the city attorney’s office filed five misdemeanor charges against him. Four of them were dropped, he pleaded no contest to the other one and he entered a yearlong domestic violence treatment program.

Urias was placed on administrative leave for the final month of the 2023 season, just ahead of his first journey into free agency. Urias hasn’t pitched — in MLB or anywhere else — since then.

Now, Urias is set to be reinstated off the restricted list, and his agent, Scott Boras, said he has some options as he enters free agency.

“He still has every intention to continue his career,” Boras said via the LA Times. “He’s getting in shape. Obviously, he’ll have options that are open to him.”

According to Bill Shaikin of the LA Times: “It is believed that multiple teams have checked in on Urías, but it is uncertain whether a deal would be struck and, if so, he might be able to help a major league team.”

In 2023, Urias went 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA, enduring the worst full season of his career.

However, in 2021 and 2022, he emerged as one of baseball’s best pitchers, finishing seventh and third in Cy Young voting, respectively. He went 20-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 2021, and 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA in 2022.

This was Urias’ second suspension, as he also was suspended for 20 games in 2019 after being arrested on suspicion of domestic battery.
