Former Tennessee baseball pitcher Austin Breedlove has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New York Yankees, according to his Instagram on July 15.

Breedlove pitched in 25 games with two starts, including eight appearances in SEC play. He struck out 31 in 23â…” innings. He had a 3.42 ERA but a 13.50 ERA in conference play. The right-handed pitcher from Ooltewah joined the Vols after two seasons at Cleveland State Community College.

He entered the portal on June 18.

Tennessee had nine players picked in the 2025 MLB Draft. Eight were picked in the first three rounds with a program-record four chosen in the first round. It had five pitchers chosen in the first three rounds.

Pitcher Liam Doyle was selected No. 5 by the St. Louis Cardinals, which made him the highest-drafted player under Vitello. He was the third top-10 pick under Vitello, joining second baseman Christian Moore as the No. 8 pick in 2024 and Chase Dollander as the No. 9 pick in 2023.

Shortstop Gavin Kilen was selected No. 13 by the San Francisco Giants, which gave UT two first-rounders for the third time in four drafts. First baseman/third baseman Andrew Fischer was taken at No. 20 by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pitcher Marcus Phillips was the No. 33 pick by the Boston Red Sox to set the record for first-round picks and give UT two first-round pitchers for the first time in program history.

Pitcher AJ Russell was taken No. 52 by the Texas Rangers. Pitcher Tanner Franklin was taken No. 72 by the Cardinals, joining Doyle in St. Louis, pitcher Nate Snead was the final pick of the third round as the No. 105 pick to the Los Angeles Angels.
