His day job is a WFAN radio host, but by night, Brandon Tierney is a Little League Baseball coach, and to his credit, he appears to take both roles seriously.

If you listen to Tierney on-air, it’s hard to imagine he’s able to just turn that passion off once he leads the studio. And based on the account of several WFAN callers this week, that passion extends onto the baseball field when coaching his son’s Little League team. Albeit maybe too much passion at times.

Earlier this week, someone on X alleged Brandon Tierney was thrown out of a 10U baseball game. Shortly after, calls began trickling into Boomer and Gio on WFAN to confirm hearing about Tierney getting tossed. With Tierney on vacation this week, Esiason and Giannotti didn’t want to jump to any conclusions before getting his side of the story. But Thursday morning, someone called in with a firsthand account of the incident.

According to longtime listener, first time caller Bill in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Tierney got into two arguments with umpires during a recent game. The first gripe came after an umpire said a player on Tierney’s team left a base early. The second issue occurred after a player on Tierney’s team was thrown out at third to end the game.

“BT came out charging,” said Bill from Fort Lee. “And I won’t say on the air what was said in that conversation. A lot of it shouldn’t have been said around 10-year-olds, but it was interesting to say the least. So, it there was any question whether BT got thrown out or not, it was quite the show here in Fort Lee the other night.”

Bill clarified that Tierney is an assistant coach, not the manager. With Tierney arguing the call, the manager left the dugout seemingly to reel his fired up assistant coach back in, but upon seeing him, the umpire tossed the manager as well. The game was over at that point, so it might not seem like a big deal. But when a Little League coach is ejected, they’re also suspended for the next game.

The caller said they appealed the ejection to Little League baseball in Pennsylvania, but it was upheld, meaning Tierney’s team was without its manager and assistant coach for the next game.

“This is the kind of passion that he wants from Aaron Boone,” Esiason said with a chuckle. “He wants passion. He speaks of passion and he brings the passion.”

Giannotti admitted it doesn’t sound good, but was quick to note there’s still two sides to every story and we haven’t heard Tierney offer his recount of allegedly getting tossed from a Little League game yet, because he’s been on vacation.

“He’s yelling at both umpires though,” Esiason interjected.

No one wants to see a coach or parent get tossed from youth sporting event. But it does happen. JJ Redick was infamously tossed from his son’s youth basketball game. One year later, he was coaching the Los Angeles Lakers. So, maybe this is all just part of Tierney’s path to replacing Aaron Boone as manager of the Yankees.
