AMELIA, Va. (WWBT) – Excitement is in the air in Amelia County as two coach pitch teams prepare to travel to Dunn, North Carolina, for the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series next week.
“The 6U tournament, this is the first one,” said Travis Nole, head coach for the 6U team. “It’s a big moment.”
The 6U and 8U coach pitch teams went undefeated through the state tournament, clinching their spots in the series.
“I think it puts us on the map for the 6U and the 8U,” said Nole.
Nole said the players achieved this milestone through their hard work during practice.
“They’re having a lot of fun,” said Nole. “It’s a lot of batting, lot of fielding, a lot of the normal stuff. Cause they’re youngsters, there’s not a lot of special drills and practices or anything like that, it’s just repetitive stuff.”
However, Nole said their great attitude on the field makes the players stand out.
“They want to be there, every single one of them,” he said. “They give 100 percent.”
This mindset punched their ticket to the World Series, where they will compete with 10 other states starting on July 25.
“It was kind of a shocking moment, really,” said Nole. “The kids are excited. I don’t know who’s having more fun, them or the parents. When we found out about going to the World Series, everyone was kind of beside themselves.”
A moment becoming reality through the support of family, friends and people living in Amelia County.
“From fundraising to coming to games, grandparents, friends, the community has really come together to help support these young men in going to these ball games and being there for them when they’re playing,” he said.
