KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey is headed to the minor leagues for a second rehab assignment this weekend.
Massey, who went on the injured list in early June, will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Friday, the Royals announced Thursday.
The 27-year-old was returned from his rehab assignment with the Omaha Storm Chasers on July 3 for a reevaluation. He played five games with the Storm Chasers and exited a June 29 game after being hit by a pitch.
Rashee Rice’s criminal case has closed, meaning a suspension looms. Plus, Mizzou takes over SEC media days. Marleah Campbell and Gabe Swartz discuss it all.
In 12 at-bats with the Storm Chasers, Massey had five hits, including a home run.
This season, Massey has struggled with the major league club, posting a career-worst .202 batting average, .221 on-base percentage and .258 slugging percentage. He was originally sent to the injured list for a left ankle sprain.
Last season, he dealt with a back injury that caused him to spend time on the injured list.
