The Waverly-Shell Rock baseball team ended their season against Boone on Monday, July 14. The Go-Hawks lost by a score of 8-0 as they struggled to get their offense going in the substate semifinal round.
The Go-Hawks finished the game with just eight baserunners. Gehrig Tibbits, Ian Sedgwick and Calvin Gunderson all finished with one hit, Jack Wedemeier and Noah Beckett combined for three walks, and Cash Ryan and Braden Seversen each reached-on-error.
The Toreadors also made things difficult by making the Go-Hawks play from behind from the very start of the game. In the first inning, the Toreadors scored a pair of runs to gain a lead in which they would never surrender. They would go on to add one run in the second inning, two more in the third, another two in the fifth, and one final run in the sixth.
On the mound for the Go-Hawks was Nolan Foster, who struck out three batters, walked five, and allowed three earned runs in four and one-third innings. Gehrig Tibbits finished the final one and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs and walking one batter.
The Go-Hawks finish their season with a 14-15 record in their first season not playing in the Northeast Iowa Conference. The loss against Boone also marked the final game for Head Coach BJ Hermsen, who announced prior to the start of the season that he would be leaving the team.
