CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Win and they will come? The Cincinnati Reds entered the All-Star break not only three games better than in 2024 but also in contention for a National League Wild Card berth. Has that translated into more fans coming to Great American Ball Park?
Cincinnati began the unofficial second half of the season with a 50-47 record and in fourth place in its division. In the NL Wild Card race, the Reds were 2 1/2 games out.
But that hasn’t increased attendance. The Reds in 50 home dates have averaged 24,715 fans, according to Baseball-Reference.com data. That’s No. 22 in all of MLB. Last season the club averaged 25,035.
Fourteen teams have increased home attendance this season while sixteen have decreased. Cincinnati’s year-over-year drop, at 321, was the least of any team in the red.
The New York Mets have increased average attendance by 11,642 per game to top the league. The St. Louis Cardinals were down 7,239 per game, the worst mark.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had the most fans overall, with 2,445,255 in 51 home games. The Athletics, playing in Sacramento this season, have had a total of 404,441. More than 1.25 million have attended games at GABP this season.
