Arquette, Aloy sign pro contracts following 2025 MLB Draft

  • July 20, 2025

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii’s second-highest Major League Baseball draft pick ever officially signed his pro contract on Saturday.

Aiva Arquette is now a Miami Marlin, the former Saint Louis and Oregon State shortstop was taken 7th overall at last week’s Draft.

He was also the first Hawaii-born player off the board in 2025.

Arquette signed a full slot value contract and made history after agreeing to a $7.15 million signing bonus — the biggest bonus paid in Marlins history.

“Just pumped to be a Marlin and just thank you to Frankie and Peter and Scott, just just believing in my talent and my work ethics,” Arquette said in his introductory press conference. “So yeah, I’m pumped so thank you.”

It’s still unclear what minor league affiliate Arquette is heading to.

Maui’s Wehiwa Aloy also put pen to paper Saturday morning, officially signing his pro contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

The reigning Golden Spikes winner out of Arkansas was drafted by the O’s in the first compensatory round of last week’s Draft.

Going 31st overall and the second Hawaii-born player off the board.

Aloy signed a full slot value contract worth roughly $3 million per MLB.com.

After signing, Wehiwa and his parents got their first look at Camden Yards.

“Yeah, it’s something that me and my family will never forget and it’s just, like I said, blessed and just grateful for opportunity,” Aloy told Hawaii News Now. “Yeah, it was very fun, we got to tour around a little bit of Baltimore and yeah, I signed that paper making it real, so yeah, can’t wait.”

“I Think, how would you feel, right up to this point, so it’s like, you know, stress, worry, excited and your kids just growing up, you know and he’s going to be doing the thing that he dreamed of.” Wehiwa’s mom Napua said.

Aloy is now headed to Florida to work with the Oriole’s Development program before joining a minor league affiliate.
