The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Kansas infielder Brady Counsell in the 10th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday. Counsell was pick No. 303 in the draft, and the first Jayhawk picked this year.

Counsell started all 60 games in his lone season for the Jayhawks in 2025, hitting .259 with 12 home runs. A defensive standout, Counsell received recognition as a 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove winner at third base, having committed only one error all season.

Counsell started his college career at Minnesota, where he played three years before transferring to Kansas to join a Jayhawks team that went on to make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2014.

Counsell will begin his professional career in the Diamondbacks system. His father, Craig, spent six years with the Diamondbacks in his own major league career. He is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs.
