NEW YORK — Pete Alonso is out of the Mets’ starting lineup for the first time in 2025.
After starting in each of the Mets’ first 99 games, Alonso is dealing with a right hand contusion and was absent for the start of Sunday’s series finale against the Reds at 1:40 p.m. at Citi Field.

Alonso, who is considered day-to-day, did not miss a game throughout the 2024 season.
Mark Vientos is making his 10th career start at first base and batting cleanup in Alonso’s place.
The Mets have one last chance to avoid the ultimate stumble out of the All-Star break.
After dropping the opening two games of their series with the Reds, the Mets have the chance to mitigate a sweep at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday at Citi Field.

David Peterson will be on the mound for the Mets. The left-hander has been their most consistent starter this season, posting a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA through 18 starts to secure his first All-Star appearance this week.
