NORFOLK – Both teams were strong on the mound Saturday, but RVR Bank (Fremont) was just a bit stronger as they downed Norfolk 2-1 in both teams second game of the Area Six District Tournament.
Adrian O’Brien started the game on the mound for Norfolk, recording 18 outs in the process.
Norfolk lost despite outhitting Fremont four to two as Landon Viergutz, James Lanman, Jay Anderson and Chris Schwede each collected one hit on the day.
Norfolk was the first to get on the board in the top of the first when Maddox Magnussen’s sac fly brougnt in the teams lone run.
Norfolk would committed an error in the bottom of the second, allowing Fremont to tie the game before takin gthe lead in the bottom of the third on a Brycen Lackey sac fly.
O’Brien, Norfolk’s starter on the bump, took the loss after surrendering two runs (one earned) on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings pitched.
James Moore opened the game for Fremont, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in a complete game effort.
Magnussen had the team’s lone RBI in the contest while Viergutz produced both to Norfolk’s stolen bases.
Norfolk will be back in action tongiht at 6 for an elimination game with OneNebraska FCU (Columbus).
