The 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline is less than two weeks away.
Heading into the trade deadline, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly discussing a possible move. Unfortunately for Yankees fans, though, it does not involve Paul Skenes. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is coming off an All-Star Game start. While he’s still under team control through the 2029 season, there was some trade speculation as Pittsburgh got off to a terrible start.

The Pirates will be holding onto Skenes this year, though.
However, New York and Pittsburgh could still agree to another trade, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Heyman, who covers Major League Baseball for the New York Post, shared that the Yankees and the Pirates have been discussing some moves heading into the trade deadline.
“Yankees have been in regular contact with the Pirates, who have a few players who’d interest NYY: Hayes, Bednar, Santana, Keller, IKF,” he reported on Sunday morning.

Ke’Bryan Hayes has struggled in recent years, though he hit .271 with 15 home runs back in 2023. He’s also known for his defense.
Yankees fans are expecting a big move or two – or more – heading into the second half of the year.
Legendary shortstop Derek Jeter said on FOX that general manager Brian Cashman said he was “all in” with this team. Most took that to mean that a big trade or two is coming.
The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline is set for July 31 at 6 p.m. E.T.
