The WPIAL baseball playoffs begin May 12th, with the championships scheduled for May 27-28 at EQT Park in Washington, PA.Multiple Beaver Valley teams are competing in the tournament, including several who received first-round byes.Tough first-round matchups are anticipated for several local teams, including Rochester against Bishop Canevin and Sewickley Academy against Greensburg Central Catholic.

The WPIAL baseball playoffs are set to begin on May 12 with teams from the Beaver Valley looking to make deep runs in the postseason once again.

Here is what you need to know about the upcoming tournament and the area teams involved. 

Where are the 2025 WPIAL baseball championships?

The WPIAL baseball championships will be making their return to Washington, Pennsylvania, and will be played at EQT Park formerly Wild Things Park on May 27-28. 

Who are the defending WPIAL baseball champions (Bold denotes Beaver Valley team)

Class 1A: Bishop Canevin def. Eden Christian Academy 10-3

Class 2A: Seton LaSalle def. Serra Catholic 5-0

Class 3A: Avonworth def. Riverside 4-3 (14 innings)

Class 4A: North Catholic def. Indiana 7-5

Outlook

Beaver Area (10-7, 8-4 4A-I) picked up the first-round bye from its section and will await the winner of No. 5 Belle Vernon and No. 12 Derry. That quarterfinal matchup will be played on May 20 at a site and time to be determined. 

No. 9 Ambridge (8-10, 6-10) is back in the postseason after placing fourth in the loaded Beaver County section and will face Knoch (10-10, 6-4 4A-III), which finished behind Greensburg Salem and Indiana. 

With a late push at the end of the season, Central Valley (10-9, 7-5) will match up with Greensburg Salem (9-6, 6-4 4A-III) who finished behind top-seeded Indiana in the section. 

To round out the Beaver County field, Blackhawk (10-7, 8-4) will face Ringgold (10-9, 7-5 4A-II) who finished fourth in its section.

Outlook

With two play-in games occurring on May 12, 2024 WPIAL Class 3A runner-up and top-seeded Riverside (13-2, 9-1 3A-I) will face the winner of Shady Side and McGuffey to open up its postseason revenge tour. 

On the other side of the bracket, Quaker Valley (12-6, 6-4) will match up with Ligonier Valley (10-7, 8-4 3A-III) who finished in a five-way tie for the section title. 

Rounding out the Beaver Valley teams is Ellwood City (14-5, 8-2) who will play Seton LaSalle (10-6, 8-4 3A-IV) who finished second in the section behind Waynesburg Central.

Outlook

Thanks to a late-season surge and a series sweep over section foe Riverview, OLSH (13-7, 11-1, 2A-III) collected its second straight section title and the No. 2 seed in the WPIAL 2A baseball championships. 

It will await the winner of the battle of Beaver County between South Side (11-6, 9-3 2A-III) and New Brighton (9-8, 7-5 2A-II) on Tuesday with South Side finishing tied for second in its section while New Brighton finished in third. 

Freedom Area (11-7, 8-4) finished ahead of New Brighton in third place in the section and will play Apollo-Ridge (8-7, 7-5 2A-III) who placed fourth in its section behind South Side.

Outlook

Rochester (9-7, 7-7 1A-II) is back in the postseason under first-year head coach Todd Weischedel but will have a tough test in the first round against Bishop Canevin (10-6, 8-2 1A-III) who finished in a three-way tie for the section crown with Serra Catholic and Eden Christian. 

Sewickley Academy (5-11, 4-6 1A-III) who was also in that loaded section with the three aforementioned teams will face Greensburg Central Catholic (14-2, 11-1 1A-I) who won its section crown by a two-game margin. 

On the other side of the bracket, Western Beaver’s (14-2, 12-2 1A-II) strong regular season slots them in as the No. 7 seed and will take on Avella (10-7, 6-6 1A-I) a team who it lost to in the beginning of the season.Â
