Worcester will be glad to see Spencer Jones and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders leave town.

Jones, the No. 2 prospect in the New York Yankees organization according to MLB Pipeline, homered twice as part of his second straight four-hit day as the RailRiders beat the Red Sox, 8-2, on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park in Massachusetts to complete a three-game series sweep and extend their winning streak to 11.

T.J. Rumfield added three hits and Carlos Carrasco allowed one run on three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings as the first-place RailRiders (55-37 overall) improved to 17-3 in the International League second half. Their winning streak matches the franchise record set in 2009 when they opened the season with 11 consecutive victories. Since May 29, they are 32-9.

After sitting out the series opener Friday night, Jones went a combined 8 for 10 in the final two games with two doubles, three home runs and five RBIs. In 16 Triple-A games, he is batting .426 (29 for 68) with five doubles, 10 home runs, 23 runs and 20 RBIs.

In the top of the second, the RailRiders took a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Rumfield and Jeimer Candelario and a hit-by-pitch to Bryan De La Cruz loaded the bases. Jose Rojas, who was coming off a three-homer, four-hit, five-RBI game Saturday, hit a sacrifice fly to score Rumfield. Candelario then scored on a throwing error on a fielder’s choice by Nicky Lopez.

Vaughn Grissom got one of the runs back for the WooSox in the bottom of the second with a leadoff home run. But Jones hit his first home run in the top of the third, a 445-foot blast to straightaway center field that had an exit velocity of 109.6 mph off the bat.

Singles by Jones and Rafael Flores and a hit-by-pitch to Rumfield loaded the bases to begin the top of the fifth. Candelario followed with a two-run single to extend the RailRiders lead to 5-1.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Everson Pereira hit his team-leading 18th home run 405 feet out to right-center field. On the next pitch from Hobie Harris, Jones went the opposite way 364 feet to left field for his second homer of the game and a 7-1 RailRiders lead.

Finally, in the top of the eighth, Jones capped his big day by leading off with a double, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a groundout by Rumfield.

Grissom’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the ninth off Leonardo Pestana scored Nate Eaton, who had doubled, and closed out the WooSox scoring.

Following an off day Monday, the RailRiders begin a six-game series at Rochester against the Red Wings.

RailRiders 10, Worcester 8: On Saturday at Polar Park, Jose Rojas had four hits — including three home runs — as the RailRiders outlasted Worcester.

Rojas hit his first home run of the day with two outs in the top of the third inning, a two-run shot that tied the game, 4-4. His second homer was a solo blast with one out in the top of the seventh that gave the RailRiders a 7-4 lead. Finally, after Worcester opened the bottom of the eighth with seven straight singles to tie the game at 8, Rojas led off the top of the ninth with his third homer to put the RailRiders back in front.

It was the second time this season Rojas had a three-homer game. He also accomplished the feat May 1 at Syracuse.

Spencer Jones also homered and had four hits and three RBIs for the RailRiders. Everson Pereira contributed a home run leading off the game as well.
