Phillies cleanup hitter and third baseman Alec Bohm was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left rib less than an hour before Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Bohm was hit by a pitch last Saturday in San Diego and while he stayed in the game briefly before being removed, sat the final game before the All-Star Break Sunday.

After resting for three days over the All-Star Break, Bohm took part in an optional workout at Citizens Bank Park Thursday and reported no issues, according to manager Rob Thomson.

But Bohm was not in the lineup on Saturday, and Thomson said in his pre-game meeting with reporters the third baseman felt something during his last at-bat in the eighth inning Friday.

The loss is a blow to the Phillies as after a slow start to the season, Bohm had been one of the club’s most consistent hitters the last few months.

Bohm has been hitting .304 with eight home runs, 28 runs scored and 34 RBI since the beginning of May.

Weston Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Bohm’s place on the roster. He struggled earlier this season, hitting just .194 with a home run and four RBI before being sent to Triple-A.

Edmundo Sosa and rookie Otto Kemp, who has been a solid addition since coming up to take first baseman Bryce Harper’s place when he was on the injured list last month, will likely see most of the time at third base in Bohm’s absence.
