The B-CU Wildcats; softball team shut out top-seeded Prairie View A&M 3-0 in the opening game for both teams in the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Tournament at Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulf- port, Mississippi.

Bethune-Cookman University opened the SWAC softball tournament by taking down Prairie View A&M 3-0 in Gulfport, Mississippi on Tuesday night, May 6.
Alyssa Lopez pitched six and two thirds scoreless innings for the Wildcats.Â
Shania Owens went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Kendall McCauley was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Molly Blackwood added two hits and Haylen Gonzalez picked up the save for B-CU.Â
The Wildcats advanced to the winner’s bracket to face Jackson State, the second seed from the East Division on Wednesday night, after the Daytona Times’ deadline.Â
B-CU (22-29 overall) is the fourth seed from the SWAC East Division while Prairie View (27-20) is the top seed from the SWAC West Division. Â
The SWAC tournament is a double elimination tournament, which runs through Friday, May 9. The winner of the tournament advances to the NCAA tournament.Â
